Tour the Weston Havens House near the UC Berkeley Campus

Friday, July 18, 2025, 10:30 am – 11:30 am, lunch following

Built in 1940, the Weston Havens House is an historic California Modernist and International Style home in the Panoramic Hill neighborhood above the University of California, Berkeley campus.  John Weston Havens, a descendent of one of Berkeley’s founders, commissioned architect Harwell Hamilton Harris to design this beautiful and eclectic custom home.  The house remains furnished with Havens’ books, artwork, and furniture, and features a wrap-around balcony with an outstanding view.  It was photographed by Man Ray in 1941.

Havens bequeathed the property to UC Berkeley upon his death in 2001. The UC Berkeley College of Environmental Design maintains the property and the resident caretaker will be our docent for the tour. Following the tour, attendees will meet for a no-host lunch at the lovely Faculty Club on campus.

Meet at Stadium Parking Lot, 2175 Gayley Road, Berkeley at 10:15 am to carpool up to the house site at 255 Panoramic Way (has very limited on-street parking)

Optional – following the tour, we will lunch at the outstanding Faculty Club, which is also in an historic building.  Please let the organizers know so we can make a reservation.

Tour size limited to 4 to 20 persons.  Cost is $40 each to help maintain the property.  Optional $20 donation to PBK Scholarship Fund requested.

If on the day of the event you find you can't make it, call Libby Tyler 217-493-4372. Simply not paying or not replying prevents us from allowing someone else to attend. No-shows do NOT receive a refund!
